OpenAI plans post-midterm push to rebrand data centers as 'AI compute campuses'
Right after Tuesday's midterms, OpenAI will launch a policy and PR campaign that includes calling its data centers "AI compute campuses," Axios reports. Chief global affairs officer Chris Lehane said the push starts in the lame-duck session opening Nov. 9, with proposals for mandatory "speed limits" on the most powerful AI systems, community compacts and state siting legislation giving residents a say in projects. An OpenAI spokesperson confirmed the new term to Business Insider, saying it "better describes the scale and role of the infrastructure we're building for AI."
